ClickBank Guide

By Lisa Irby

ClickBank is the Internet’s premier retailer of digital goods.
That's why a Clickbank guide seemed called for!
From e-books to software, you can find it all at the ClickBank Marketplace.
As an affiliate, you can recommend any of the products listed in the Marketplace and earn commissions as high as 75%.
Many solopreneurs have followed the affiliate path when they first set out to build an online business.

Because the product vendor’s costs are usually minimal, you’ll earn a much larger commission from ClickBank than you would from some of the other networks such as Commission Junction or LinkShare.

Signing up with ClickBank is free, and it will only take you a couple of seconds.

Go directly to ClickBank’s Marketplace to search for products relevant to your site’s theme.

Notice there is some information provided under each product result…

$/Sale—This is how much you earn per sale (USD). If you see $0.00 there, it means that the product hasn’t had a sale yet.

%/Sale—This is your commission expressed in percentage of the sale.

Rebill Total and %/Rebill—These numbers are only shown if the vendor offers recurring billing products (e.g., products like memberships and subscriptions that regularly bill customers over time).

Grav—This stands for “Gravity.”

Let’s talk about Gravity…

It represents how well a product is converting at ClickBank.
It’s the number of distinct affiliates who earned a commission by referring a paying customer to the publisher’s products.

It’s also important to note this is a weighted sum and not an actual total.
For each affiliate paid in the last 12 weeks, ClickBank adds an amount between 0.1 and 1.0 to the whole. The more recent the last referral, the higher the value added.

So, in other words, a product with a very high Gravity means ClickBank is regularly recording unique affiliate sales.
If the sale activity begins to decrease, so will the Gravity score.

Don’t ignore the products with low Gravity.
That could just mean the product is very new and not a lot of people know about it yet.
Some affiliates take advantage of lower Gravity products to get a jump on the pay-per-click market.
Not a bad idea if you can learn how to master AdWords, etc.

Obviously, there is no right or wrong when it comes to selecting a product’s Gravity.
Your primary goal should be to choose products that tie into your site’s theme.

Choosing Your Products

Now that you have an overview of how to search the ClickBank Marketplace, it’s time to pick your products.

Use the filters in the left-hand column to narrow and refine your search as necessary or click on “Advanced Search” next to the search box.
As you browse, keep in mind what you learned about the Gravity score above.

When you find a product (or products) that interest you, buy them.

Yes, buy them.

As you know, part of being an effective PREseller is knowing your products.
That way you can speak confidently about its contents and call out relevant benefits to your audience.

Now, for the monetization…

After you’ve purchased the product(s), there are three ways you can promote them…

  • Write a review.
  • Publish a keyword focused article.
  • Develop an autoresponder series.

Keep in mind; you can use this technique with any affiliate network and their products.
I chose ClickBank because they offer high commissions and they make it easy for you to find products that relate to your niche.

Strategy #1—Write a Review

Reviews can be great sales generators if you do them right.
It’s essential that your audience knows you have bought the product and that your review is not there just to earn a commission.

I’m sure you’ve seen sites where the owners recommend every single product.
Looks a little suspicious, doesn’t it?
Especially when the review is very generic with no specific details.

Even if you like the product, it doesn’t hurt to throw in some things you didn’t like or point out areas of improvement.

Will this deter some people from buying?
Maybe.
But the important thing is your credibility rating is heightened, and your audience will be more likely to take your recommendations for other products you recommend.

The net effect is what’s most important here.

You can also review multiple products and rank them in order of most recommended to least recommended.
Explain your rationale behind the rankings and point out the positives and negatives.

The more honest your review comes across, the more credibility you will gain.
And as you know, that is a vital part of the PREselling process.

I used this method for one of ClickBank’s products.
I bought a book titled The Truth About Six Pack Abs and published a review.

For maximum exposure, I linked the review from my homepage.

I call out specific details of the book, so it’s evident that I have purchased and read it.
Again, this is so important for building credibility.

See how I provided specific audience-relevant information that allows my visitors to see why the product will be beneficial to them?

This is the same approach that you will want to take when you write a review for your audience.

Be thorough and honest.
Don’t be afraid to mention the good AND the bad about the products you review.

Strategy #2—Publish a Keyword Focused Article

After you’ve read the book, think of an article you could write that would allow you to tie in relevant mentions of the product.

The goal of this method is to get your article ranked well in the search engines, just like you would for any of your web pages.

For example, let’s say you choose to promote a book on weight loss. Perhaps there is an idea in this book that inspires you to write an article titled, “Ten Things You May Not Know About Weight Loss.”

Next actions steps?

  1. Use Brainstorm It! to find the “profitable” weight loss keywords you want to target, just as you would for any new page.
  2. Write the article, keeping your main keyword phrase in mind. Don’t forget to make use of Yoast SEO to ensure your article is search engine friendly and optimized for the keyword phrase you-re targeting.

And whenever it’s relevant, recommend the ClickBank product within the article.

Here’s an example…

For Item #7 in your list of “Ten Things You May Not Know About Weight Loss,” you could say something like, “I learned this tip from the book, [insert link to ClickBank product here].

This is important…

Do not go after the hard sell.
Your goal is to PREsell through useful content just as you do with other pages on your website.

Use your knowledge of the topic to PREsell throughout the article, then make a casual recommendation for the product(s) you are promoting.

How to Pick a Clickbank Product to Promote

Strategy #3—Develop an Autoresponder Series

Clickbank guide: third strategy. An autoresponder is a program that allows you to send a series of e-mails at certain intervals.
If you craft your messages effectively, they can generate sales for you while you sleep!

You can use the ClickBank products (or any affiliate program’s products) to generate sales using this method.
Simply use MailChimp’s autoresponder feature to craft and send your messages.

Just make sure you follow the same guidelines you do when creating content for your website…

  1. The material should be relevant to your audience.
  2. Always PREsell with useful, informative content first, then gradually work your affiliate links into the messages.
  3. Every message should not attempt to get the sale. In fact, it’s best to hold off on including any affiliate links until the 3rd or 4th message.

If you begin the autoresponder series with a sales pitch, you run the risk of alienating your audience from the very beginning.

In Conclusion

There you have it!
You’ve just learned three ways to increase your ClickBank affiliate income.
Choose the method that best fits your site, or experiment with all three—it’s up to you!

Just keep the following in mind…

  1. Always buy the product(s) you plan to promote.
This enables you to write a thorough review/article that provides audience-relevant information.
  2. Only choose ClickBank products that fit the theme of your site. For example, if you target teachers, it doesn’t make sense to promote a book on internet marketing.
