Spend more time on your goals
When I started setting goals and trying to achieve them, I, like many people, never succeeded. I tried to find out why. The plans were good, they had deadlines, were realistic enough, and I had enough motivation. It seemed like there was nothing wrong with the “setting” part of goal setting.
After much thought, I realized that the problem was not setting goals but rather achieving them. With most of my failed goals, I discovered that I didn’t reach them because I didn’t spend enough time on them, time that I spent doing the necessary things to reach the goal.
So after this realization, I changed my goal-setting routine a bit. Instead of focusing on the result, I want to achieve for the goal, I started writing down my time on my goal each day. After doing this for a few weeks, I suddenly noticed that my progress on all my goals had improved dramatically. I was achieving more than I ever could have.
Today’s lesson: To achieve a goal, you must spend enough time working towards it. Instead of just tracking the progress of your plan, track the time you spend on it.
For example, if your goal is to start your own business, ask yourself: “How much time have I spent working on my new business, research, product, marketing, sales, etc. on a daily or weekly basis? Is that enough time for me to achieve my business goal realistically?”.
If you want to lose weight, “How much time do I spend exercising daily?”
If your goal is to get a diploma or course: “How much time do I put in regularly?” If your goal is to write a book: “How many words/pages have I written a day, a week?”
If you answer these kinds of questions honestly, it will be easy to see why you are not achieving the goal you have set for yourself.
Of course, many other factors cause us not to reach our goals, but in real life, I feel that time is the only problem for most people. If you can find ways to spend more time on your goals, you are much more likely to achieve them.
